I know i'll get hung, drawn and quartered for saying that, but i've said it before, the main aim of this goverment, is to destroy this country, and they are succeeding.
I don't think you can apportion blame to any previous goverment, this lot have been in power long enough to sort most of it out, and things are getting worse. In the end, you have to blame the electorate.
I work in manufacturing in the West Midlands, and have done so since I left school 20 years ago.
I have witnessed first hand our industry, and skills being destroyed. Our company probably won't last much longer we have been going for 30 years but the end is quite near.
Tescos etc beckons on a fiver an hour.
Everybody moans, but no one does anything about it.
Apathy rules in this country, but who cares?
So the Thatcher government had a godd try. Well cast YOUR mind back a bit more to what they inherited. The Unions did it to themselves, remomeber Scargil, Red Robbo etc.
As has been pointed out this lot have tied us in red tape wrapping us in a nanny state. That just makes manufacturing uneconimical so of course internationals will move - They ar not charities.
I suspect its more of a dark move to drag us into the euro and deeper into europe. Break the nation first then it has no choice. Go on Tony and Gordon prove me wrong.
This country destroys itself. We are fast becoming a trading nation, unable to compete with nations able to produce goods cheaper. Due to the cost of living in this country we will never be able to compete and keep costs down. Fine for people in non-productive industries such as insurance, finance and the import industry and logistics. No good for the worker though.
Well some of your comments might be based upon old data, it would appear that manufacturing stuff overseas is going to start getting very expensive sooner rather than later, more and more people are starting to be aware that Peak Oil is here now, that means from this point on, the worlds future energy supplies will be downhill all the way and as the oil supply will not meet demand the price will continue to climb until things like the cost of air travel is out of sight for normal people and things like air freight will not be economic and even sea freight will be for luxuries only and that will be the end of globalisation. BTW if you havent travelled abroad in your life, then within the next couple of years might be your last chance ever to do it.
If you doubt peak oil is here then read this internal US Army Corps of Engineers report on the subject and also think about why the UK govt has suddenly decided to go back to nuclear power stations. Google ''peak oil'' or ''oil depletion'' for some more info on this stuff.
The really sad point is that by the time the world realises this it will be too late for the UK as all the industries and expertise for manufacturing will no longer exist in any viable form in the country.
If anybody wants an idea for a future industry start-up I would suggest that you try a bicycle factory, but dont use rubber tyres or lamps that run from methane gas from the house cess pit.
