I see the Crusader crossword which I have done for years and years and sent in most days has resorted to shaded squares and you can phone in the answer. They say you can phone, text or post - and the winner will be picked from all entries - I seriously doubt it.
Will probably give up now. Lazy folk will just to the answers in the shaded squares and waste 31.50 ? PHONING IN !
The Daily express has also dropped two little prize quiz questions it used to have on Saturdays - why - can't they afford prizes any more ?

I can understand why they are making the change. Why would they want loads of envelopes landing in their mailroom , only for 99.9%+ to have to be shredded without even being opened?
I too wonder how they decide whether to pick their winners/shortlist - I have this doubt as to whether they ever look at the postal ones.

I think The Daily Express and The Sunday Express will soon get rid of all postal entries and just have a phone-in for the answer in the shaded squares. Obviously they get a portion of the cost of the phone calls and this will pay for the prizes and make extra money for the newspapers.
