Leave the ;) out

Put [i] at either end of what you want in italics,

Do not mix with other symbols such as ;) as they disable it

[i] Is correct... and you can only use then once in post.

More or less how you tried to use them. But some things ruin it.

Speech marks mess them up for sure, always have them outside the italics.

Unsure but looking at your post a semicolon might also. Probably worth avoiding punctuation.

And they only work once per post.
