Daily Telegraph's Peter Oborne Urges Hsbc Coverage Review

Has the House Magazine of the Tory Party shot itself in the foot here ?
Peter Oborne is a high-profile journo, held in high esteem. I would have thought it was better for the Torygraph to have this man inside the tent, peeing out, than outside the tent, peeing in !

Peter Oborne was a well respective Journalist and what he said about the Telegraph and other newspapers was spot on. I read the book about how the Expenses Scandal unravelled and it could only have been done by the Telegraph but unfortunatel y the integrity of the paper is lost. This is an extract from his statement: //No one has ever expressed quite as well as...

There is a big difference between those on the right and those on the left.
On the left they have your view, as above with the mantra 'The party can do no wrong', the Rose tinted glasses syndrome we see continually on here.
Most on the right however are willing to criticize the party as they are well aware it is the only way to improve and not self implode. Again your see it time and time again on here.

sometimes I have no idea what ymb is talking about - in this case it's certainly nothing to do with the OP.
I don't think the Telegraph's behaviour is actually political, though; it's to do with making money. Its owners, the Sarkley twins, seem to have concluded that the best way of doing this is by being an advertising/propaganda sheet rather than a newspaper. Good for Oborne (not a man whose views I share, but he's acting on principle).

I still think that the Telegraph has done itself no favours here at all. As a Guardian reader, you might imagine that I rarely read anything else, and its coverage of the HSBC money-laundering fiasco has been outstanding. But I occasionally buy the Telegraph, if only for the crosswords, and its not a bad paper at all. Streets ahead of the DM anyway.
The Torygraph is still one of our best newspapers, as long as you can get past the obvious political bias. After all, its exposure of the MP's expenses business was central in the reforms that came afterwards.
But it still needs to explain why the HSBC affair was given so little prominence, for such a high profile and campaigning newspaper.

Ok Mikey, more of my Drivel. The Unions were responsible for placing Ed M as party leader. Unite is known for their bullying tactics and intimation. Remember the Giant rat?

I read the book about how the Expenses Scandal unravelled and it could only have been done by the Telegraph but unfortunately the integrity of the paper is lost. This is an extract from his statement:
//No one has ever expressed quite as well as Utley the quiet decency and pragmatism of British conservatism. The Mail is raucous and populist, while the Times is proud to swing with the wind as the voice of the official class. The Telegraph stood in a different tradition. It is read by the nation as a whole, not just by the City and Westminster. It is confident of its own values. It has long been famous for the accuracy of its news reporting. I imagine its readers to be country solicitors, struggling small businessmen, harassed second secretaries in foreign embassies, schoolteachers, military folk, farmers—decent people with a stake in the country.//

ha-ha.
This, I believe, will be another can of worms, lefty will regret opening.
The Guardian, for instance, takes money from Bill Gates, Unilever, NGO's,(big spending)charities, and once, even a Labour Government to spin stories.
^Nothing to do with advertising, straightforward cash bungs for not so straightforward spin.
Mikey said, the other day, he gets all his news from the BBC. That would be the unbiased BBC that takes millions from the EU. Wonder why? You won't find out by reading the Guardian. They have, to put it kindly, a symbiotic relationship.
90% of beeb job ads appear in the Guardian. There must barely be room for loony, left-wing councils to waste our money on fatuous non-job adverts.
