/// His comments echoed those made by a Muslim women’s human rights group which said it was advising parents to 'keep your daughter’s passport under lock and key'. ///
"MUSLIM WOMEN’S HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP" Surely that has got to be the most prime example of a 'contradictory of terms' ever?

Thought you were made of sterner stuff than that. I WAS genuinely puzzled when I initially saw the title of your thread, but I admit, I obviously got it when i opened it.
I'm a user first then a Mod, if you can't take a lighthearted post in the manner it was intended then I suggest you step away from the keyboard! You've had far worse dealt you in the past, however it appears that as im a mod im not allowed to to poke you gently with a stick? Hmmmm!
I've always had a sarky streak, a fact which hasn't changed since becoming a mod, and one which I don't intend changing either.
If you really do have a problem with my joke, then by all means report it as you should any other posts which upset you.
To reiterate, IT WAS A JOKE!!!!

// Pedantry:
multiple daughters, one passport each, so the imperative would be to "lock up your daughters' passport"//
not really - three children, one passport each - so three passports
"The men ate their meals" is correct in ENglish
but ze franch structure is 'the men ate their meal' because each has one

Thanks. Intriguing observation on the French style. I'm not French, was just in two minds about which form of words sounded best. Would have saved space if I'd not indulged in thinking out aloud.
Morning news says that they did cross the border into Syria. Seems that you can exit Istanbul airport with no passport/CCTV checks.
iirc, Turkey has ambitions to join the EU, yet, in this example, it does nothing to stop people crossing their border into Syria. If ISIS beds in and becomes as permenent a state as Saudi Arabia (for example), Turkey would become the EU's front line. They've got their work cut out if this becomes a deal-breaker.
