Does anyone know how long the free trial period lasts for on that site? The reason I'm asking is that I, myself, don't want to sign up and find out: I'm asking for a friend who is interested.

Thanks, Chris. I was on that page and obviously didn't scroll down far enough! Thanks again.
Careful now. They rely on you forgetting to cancel your credit card subscription.
Keep in mind, study… although it is technically free for the 14 day period (here in the U.S.) as Chris states, to sign up one must still give them a credit card and other information. If you decide to resign within 30 days following the expiration date of the 'free trial' period you may do so, but if you don't then your stuck with the charge for whatever service(s) you signed up for.

I think Ancestry is generally a good site, one has to be cautious when signing on to assure that, if you don't want to continue, that you actually apply for leaving… within the prescribed time period.

@stuey,

I'd suggest they do all their speaking to family members, in the style of WDYTYA, first. This could save a lot of time when they "come up against a brick wall" in terms of research.

Often, you find family members referred to by an endearing nickname, not the name on their birth certificate and you can only get past obstacles like that by speaking to people.

It could take more than a year of using Ancestry to build the tree to your satisfaction. £140/yr, last time I looked.

Stuey… of course (either my fingers aren't as accurate as I think on the keyboard or auto-correct doesn't like stuey.
How hard would it be, in software terms, to splurge a user with fascinating new leads on days 11,12 and 13?

"Free", that's a joke, there always seems to be a catch somehow.

Thanks for all your comments. I shall inform him, my nephew, of all the "cautions".

Guess what? I'm now getting ads for "Ancestry,ca" on this site:)
Same as I did when I first signed up & then cancelled, yet they still pester me.
