I had surgery over two weeks ago and was told to keep the dressings/bandage on and keep it dry.

I am due for stitches out this week which is now over due because they had no appointments.

I am desperate to clean my leg and foot and wonder if it's okay to remove the dressings that morning so that I can clean it before I go, obviously I won't drench it, I will just use a cloth in the surrounding area.

This will also help me with clothing and footwear for the appointment. On the way home from surgery I had a lift and so wore no footwear and pyjama bottoms. I have to get public transport to my appointment this time and the bulky dressing does not allow for shoes etc...

Thanks

Will also help with the shock too I think, scars a biggie this time round :)

if it was two weeks ago, by now you will be able to wash the wound fully and then let it air dry for around twenty minutes afterwards. no harm will come to the wound, and it will be a damn sight cleaner after! it will have healed almost entirely, otherwise the stitches would not be removed. you can also reduce the size of the dressing to fit the wound (i find that nurses in general hospitals always put ridiculously-sized dressings on wounds that are totally unnecessary - i'm a psych nurse, btw, and think less is definitely more when it comes to bandages etc.). this will make things easier for you all round. be brave and bold!

Thanks both. Bandages and dressings removed. Wound cleaned, foot cleaned and it feels great to have a free foot. Not looking forward to the stitches out but I can only hope that this surgery is the fixer.
Hope all goes well hun x
