The case that I made concerning funding for the Police is, however, a real one.
We just might be able to manage without Libraries, Old Age Pensioners Day Centres, etc, etc, but how many of us would be happy to see our Police so deprived of funds that they can no longer be effective ?
You will know from my previous posts that an issue that that I am particularly concerned about is the sexual exploitation of children, in the present and the past. dave said recently that child sexual abuse is going in Britain " on an industrial scale" and its an issue that I have no arguments with him at all. But the Police's ability to fully investigate these awful crimes is being. and will continue to be compromised by lack of funding.
So, on this issue alone, people will have a clear choice about when they step into the ballot box in May. What is very strange though is that Law and Order has traditionally been very much of a Tory iron-clad policy, but they seem to have dropped its priority down a peg or two of late.
