Facetime To Australia

Whenever Facetiming Oz There is always a poor connection and it keeps having to resume so it takes forever to get a message accross.
Am wondering if Australia is too far to get a good reception.have no trouble in the UK

I have been having the same problem withfacetime and Australia. My daughter is there and seems to think it is the quality of wifi in Oz. In a hostel there are quite a few people trying to use at the same time. We are having better luck using Skype which is also free & also messenger instead if the imessage (green blob) as we call it)

Thank you for your reply and my next thing now is --- can I skype using my I pad and do I have to alert my son in Oz to connect his side to skype

I have only got my iPad to do this on (my laptop takes an age to load up). I have just skyped my daughter this morning. The only thing with Skype is that it doesn't alert you like Facetime does. You know where the bar drops down at the top of the screen. But we get round this by sending a message using the green blob first. To contact someone else on Skype they also need it set up using their email address.
