some one has been off work ..6 weeks .didnt get sick pay .got paid for the first two weeks off....this happened twice in the past 5 years...they got paid for the other two times in full.are contract at work has different sickness holiday entitlement in them now...can they change it without telling us...how do we go about geting a duplicate copy of our first contract.its a well known catering firm surely we can gett one from 2005.any help please

You sick pay may be on a rolling allotment - so you have reached your maximum sick pay, for example it may be 14 weeks in a rolling period. So you have had 2 periods of 6 weeks and then a further 2 weeks in 5 years maximum allowed has been reached. Ask your HR department for a copy of your T&C's.

yes, they can, there is no statutory requirement to offer sick pay above and beyond what the state provides.
Were you not given a copy of your contract and T and C when you joined the firm?
our sick policy has been changed several times over the years, we get an email outlining the changes and a link to the online staff handbook. as TTT has said, they don't have to pay you anything other than stat requirements.

that said - out sickness policy states its down to the manager to auth the sick pay, you may find different people have their episodes of sickness treated differently depening on the situation. For example i had 8 weeks off work last year due to a major op which was paid in full, a colleague had i think 4 or 5 weeks off with a broken leg, which was'nt paid as he did it playing footie

it isn't illegal at all, as long as a proper reason is given and why are you assuming that a supervisor is a jobsworth?

it states in our handbook that the company reserves the right to refuse payment when the absence arises from sporting injuries amongst various other things.

I didn't say it was down to the whim of the manager, that's your spin. it has to be authorised by the manager
