Well if you ask her out and she is not interested she will either say so or tell you she has a boyfriend - at least then you know.

How about just asking her casually what she's up to this weekend? Presumably if she has a boyfriend, she'll be seeing him this weekend and will mention him.

If you are able to chat to her, just drop the words "your boyfriend" into the conversation somewhere and note her reaction. If she says, "oh I don't have one", there you go and it's an immediate opening for you to suggest a date sometime. If she replies, "my boyfriend is...." you'll know where you stand.

If you get no reaction, you could then ask something about him, like "What football/rugby etc team does your boyfriend support ?" - a perfectly legit question if your town/city has more than one team. It doesn't have to be such a direct question btw, just throw the phrase �your boyfriend� into the conversation.

Yep i agree with RoadAtlas i think thats what most folk do. Just drop something boyfriend related into the conversation and you'll find out.
