The Chase Today - Magician's Card Trick
31 Answers
Did anyone see The Chase today where one of the contestants did a magic card trick for Bradley?
Does any one know how the trick is done?
He got Brad to shuffle an invisible/imaginary pack of cards then pick a card.
Then the Magician produced the card Brad picked from an actual pack of cards with the choice card facing the other way.
It was very good. Wish I knew how he done it as I like to do card tricks myself but can't figure out how it was done.

I have seen the link, it is very clever but complicated. Basically the cards are stacked back to back in a special order. The cards are rough-backed so that this does not show when spreading them. It then works on a system of odds and evens, with the magic total being 13. Clubs and diamonds are odd, hearts and spades even. Thus the 10 of diamonds will be back to back...

Jackdaw has it spot on, the cards are called the rough and smooth deck, as you spread them out you press down firmly with finger and thumb, the card below will not be seen, when you get to the key card you loosen your grip and the card below will be face down in this case 7 of hearts, you can buy the spray to do this or buy the pack ready prepared but they do wear with use.
True. My point was that you could not do that trick with an ordinary deck of cards as you can with other tricks. You can also get trick packs of cards where the decoration on the obverse looks identical, but one part is slightly highlighted, unnoticeable to the punter but clearly recognisable to the performer. As an example, the obverse will be decorated around the edges with the four emblems, ♥,♦.♣.♠ in very small characters. One of those will be ever so slightly emphasised, so by counting the performer knows which card is on the reverse.
Thank you for all your replies and answers. It certainly gives me a lot of information to look over and to practice my card tricks.
I was given a pack of "Invisible Cards' years ago but didn't know what they were for as there was no instructions. Someone told me they were also known as a 'Loaded Deck'. I'll need to try and find them now.
I think I can now work out how the card trick is done but I will need to really practice until it become flawless.
Thanks for your answers everyone. So kind.

I watched this card trick on catch up today a few times and, its has to be pre-organised, or the bloke is a mind reader!
Firstly the programme is recorded, and there is only a live audience for the Celebrity version.
When you actually watch the trick, you never see Bradley Walsh and the contestant in a film shot together, and the camera goes off the contestant when he goes to put the card packet in his trouser pocket.

trt this trick is not pre-organised and he is certainly not a mind reader, the trick can be done any place, any time, the trick is simple, the way he did it is one of a number of ways. It looks good because they are at a distance it would not be that easy if you were sat at same table, you would just ask them to name a card then show your pack open it up to show their card reversed. It is a special pack as Jackdaw33 says in best answer.
