vw campers

I am after a 1989-1990, VW camper but whats the best- petrol or diesel? If diesel would you need a Turbo diesel? I don`t want a van that holds up traffic on hills. Also are Automatic gearboxs a bad idea?

Hi Kitchy,

My in-laws have a J reg VW Transporter based camper with a lift up roof.  This is fitted with the Audi 5 cylinder 2.5Ltr unit which is lively enough but is very thirsty.  I would definately go for a Turbo Diesel.
