Hi I was at the dentist this morning been in pain the last few days and I have a dry socket. Not much they can do apart from tell me to take salt rinses and painkillers what the heck is a dry socket and is it to do with me having been on rivoroxaban and having to pack it a lot. Not happy
When I had one the dentist packed it with cotton wool until it settled down. Apparently it's because you rinsed your mouth and rinsed the clot out which was forming after the extraction. Very painful, I remember it well.
I had one of these too some years ago.
It really really hurts.
All you can do is take lots of painkillers (within the allowed doseage) do salt rinses as the dentist has suggested and wait for it to heal.
Bad luck, Gordie.
You should also be taking antibiotics, Geordie. I've had one, extremely painful. I did mine by rinsing my mouth too soon after extraction, dislodging the blood clot.
It's always best to have a stitch put in if its a large back tooth.
A painful condition, but one that will resolve in time. Painkillers and topical treatments such as irrigating the socket and packing the socket with sedative materials will help.
