We need a new tv, Mr F has always made the decision on which one, but as many know, he now has Alzheimers and can't really make an informed decision.
I have tried ploughing through a 'buy a new tv' guide, got so far, and then it all goes over my head.
Based on the room size, we need 38/40" screen.
Also need a Freeview HD tuner.
The guide recommends the top 4 brands to be Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic. (Other than the expensive brands for real boffs) Our viewing consists of Mr F watching his few progs during the day, and viewing his DVD's. He doesn't watch sport at all. Unless you count snooker LOL.
Rare I watch the tv in there as I don't like the same programmes he does.
I have no idea what PVR and OLED is, smart tv? 3D? I don't think we need that.
And there I get stuck..I think we need LED rather than plasma or LCD, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyone with a bit of patience to help me check further, or recommend something, I'd be very appreciative.
Thank you.

I've found Co-op Electrical brilliant for delivery and installation. They once sent me a text to say that my new fridge would be delivered the following morning at 07:47. And blow me - 07:47 they were knocking on the door.
Have a look here.

Incidentally, that Panasonic Best Buy at top left looks pretty good.

Hi ferlew
Buying a tv that suits your needs is a little difficult these days what with all the techie jargon the salesman give you but the basic things you need to know is
Always buy a quality brand ( we buy LG and Samsungs mainly and got Sony Blu Ray players ) not cheap own brand supermarket tvs
if youre room can take it buy big....it sounds as if youre room can take at least a 42inch
Go and have a look in stores that have lots of working demo tvs running and you and Mr F like the look of.... the picture , sound etc
Ask for best price as they ay be able to give a deal on either price warranty etc
Good luck to you and Mr F x

Ps Just to confirm what gingerbee mentioned Richer Sounds are great stores and very helpful staff but their stores are not in every town so not in some areas so check for nearest to you . We are lucky and have one near us. The amount of stuff bought from there is staggering lol
They do 5 year warranties free for most tvs and if not offer them for 10% of the cost of the item ( say a tv is £480 you pay £48 for a full 5 year warranty
