For loads of good quality cheap restaurants and cafes, head for the Latin Quarter. Take RER line B or C to St-Michele Notre-Dame or Metro Line 10 to Cluny La Sorbonne. If you explore the area around Rue de la Harpe and Rue St-Severin, you'll find lots of places where you can get a good three course meal for between 10 and 15 euros. (Roughly 7 to 10.50). That seems like good value to me - certainly better than almost anywhere in a UK tourist area - and the coffee is just as cheap as well!
