Years ago my Father always had Asparagus Fern growing in his garden to go with his cut flowers.I mean the kind that goes with carnations in buttonholes as there are several types of asparagus fern.I managed to purchase a pot of this fern but it was sold as a houseplant. There is enough to split the plant up,would some survive in the outdoor garden?

Asparagus plumosus is not generally considdered a hardy plant. They will take a bit of cold but not below say 4 or 5 deg C.

If there's enough to plant out as you say, you could try a bit in a really sheltered position out of cold wind and somewhere the water doesn't sit around it's toes all winter.

Good luck
