Serious Concerns Over Caramel Tea
12 Answers
I am sat here drinking some caramel tea with milk. It is yummy and if I could transfer myself into a teabag I would choose a caramel tea bag to spend the rest of my days with in marital harmony.
However it tastes 'too' nice.
On the packet all it says is 10% flavouring. So this could potentialy have aspartame ect in? I am sat here in pleasure but also I am slightly worried. What do you think are the 'flavourings'?

Off the top of my head, 4,5-Dimethyl-3-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone and 3,4-Dimethyl-2-hydroxy-2-cyclopenten-1-one, or better still, a carefully calculated blend of both would give the tea a caramel flavour.
Both of these substances are far cheaper in bulk than naturally derived caramel.
Incidentally, no one has an intolerance to artificial flavouring en masse. What we have is an intolerance to the individual chemicals that make up that artificial flavouring or an individual chemical itself.
