Residents of East Kent, those living East / south of the River Medway, are called 'Men (or Maids) of Kent', as opposed to residents of West Kent, who are known as 'Kentish Men' or 'Kentish Maids'.
Tsk, Baldric! I would suggest it is more a birthright than a residency claim!

The River Medway has long been regarded as the line of division between Men of Kent and Kentish Men, but the true position of the line might be a couple of miles east, at Rainham. Along the London road at Rainham is a small hamlet, now part of the town itself, known as Rainham Mark.
I agree with Balders, the Medway River is taken to be the delineating boundary. I wasn't born here so I don't think I can claim to be a Maid of Kent : -)

I've only lived in East Kent since '87 so probably not accepted anywhere yet!
I'm not disagreeing per se, just suggesting that it is a birth right not a matter of residency.

Eccles aka Maid of Kent

Ok, but if 'we' had to take up arms again, I know where I'd stand!
As a Maid of Kent but a non resident these days, I agree with Eccles.
I agree with eccles, so I am a immigrant Maid of Kent with no right to the title :-)
