Sir Keith Joseph, Rhodes Boyson, and Leon Brittan, were all close colleagues of Thatcher. Time, as we know, has not been kind to their reputations.
Another was was clearly deemed, "one of us", was the late unlamented, Jimmy Savile.
Was Thatcher particularly unlucky in attracting such odious people or was it that high-powered jobs for Tories enhanced their sense of invulnerability so that they could continue to display the insolence of office?

Secretary for The Department Of Health, and a member of the board of Imperial Tobacco at the same time?

Sounds pretty louche to me!!!
Andy - just have a little look on youtube for Ken Clarke you might be surprised

It could all be false - I could not possible say
I agree, andy- but the thread's title is about (alleged) perverts. Maybe there is a news story/court case I've missed
The evidence against Savile appears overwhelming, and the same applies to Cyril Smith, but I'm not sure anything has been proven about any of the others mentioned in this thread which would justify the term 'perverts'
Question Author
I haven't suggested that he is.
I dont think these perverts are limited to any one party. i think it will be equally spread across the political spectrum.
Question Author
JNO, I'd draw a clear distinction between brown boots(which I happen to wear myself) and suede which is oftimes the mark of a lounge lizard.
Easy to take pot-shots at dead people, any name can be added to the list. As far as Cyril Smith's concerned, Private Eye had been on his case for years, long before he died.
// I'm sure I've read somewhere that brown suede shoes are an unmistakable sign of a louche character.//

definite sign of a cad - anyone who wore hush puppies got it in the neck and as for veldtschoon ....

I still dont wear brown shoes with a suit ....
// Easy to take pot-shots at dead people,// z

I am glad s/o has mentioned the fact that dead men cant sue nor defend

I have a little list and X's name is on it - ergo there is s/t in it and he may even be guilty
Dead men CAN sue, via their estate, but not in the tort of defamation.

"Secretary for The Department Of Health, and a member of the board of Imperial Tobacco at the same time?....Sounds pretty louche to me!!!"

Unless I'm missing something the two were not "at the same time"- one was 1988-1990 and the other was 1998-2007.

*Secretary of State for Health
In office 25 July 1988 – 2 November 1990

* Deputy Chairman and a director of British American Tobacco (BAT) (1998–2007), for which Clarke faced allegations relating to activities of BAT in lobbying the developing world to reject stronger health warnings on cigarette packets and evidence that that corporation had been involved in smuggling and targeting children with advertisements.[34][35]

Tom Driberg. Labour MP (1905-1976) was a well-known homosexual who was later ennobled by Harold Wilson. In his autobiograpy Driberg wrote something like 'The most important room in the House of Commons was the gent's lavatory ......
Question Author
AS far as I know Driberg was a normal homosexual with no interest in children. That hardly made him a pervert.
