Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a good day. mine is a tad stressful as my computer has been crashing and then restarting itself - or just restarting again and again. I know my motherboard is quite old and my ratter15 thinks it may be on it's way out. But it has just restarted and then come up with a window that says:
WinPatrol noticed a program set to run automatically will no longer use this function. It may be this option was changed or the entire program has been removed or updated.

If you want this program to automatically start you may need to re-install or update its auto Startup option.

I can click OK. But I'm not sure that will solve the problem. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I would download Ccleaner, Cara ........ make sure it's the free one.

Run the system cleaner option AND the registry checker. Then re-boot.

That's the first thing I'd try.

Also, dumprep is non-essential to the system. It can be disabled or removed from startup. Kernel fault checking is not needed, but it would be nice to know why it's playing up.

Thanks so much. I'll try that. It is a rather old computer, so I know it is starting to die. But I can't really afford a new one at the moment, so need to keep it going for a little while longer. Thanks for the info on the dumpreps. I was worried it was deleting something it shouldn't. Thanks again!

However, I always advise folk to stay well clear of Registry Cleaners and, whilst I have great respect for The Builder, I request your reading of the following link :-

Hi again, The Builder. Well I downloaded CCleaner, the free one, as you recommended, and ran it. I have not had any problems since, so hopefully whatever was disrupting is now solved. Thank you so much!
HansUrbancka, thanks for your caution, but I had already run it before I read your post. As you can see, it seems to have worked. But I know my poor computer will not last terribly long anymore. It is about 12 years old and when ratter15 first had it, it was custom built and had lots of top specs. But no computer lasts forever! Just a little bit longer would be nice though.

I also dislike registry cleaners but I have found CCleaner to be one of the 'mildest' and used with a modicum of common sense it's fine.

@SlackAlice.......Appears that Nick Mead changes his mind on matters.

However, I am somewhat single minded and will continue to advise folk to stay well away from all Registry Cleaners which, unless used with extreme caution, can cause irreparable damage to computers/laptops.

Having said what I have, it is nice to know that our dear friend Carakeel has had success with CCleaner and her Computer is back in order.

As an aside.....It would be interesting to know more about her Comp and its Operating System, because I feel sure that there are ABers who could help her to keep it going for quite a while longer; even, if by chance, it is running on Windows XP.

Hansurbancka, I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP3 (build2600) on my computer, and 3.20 gig Intel Pentium 4. I have four memory slots filled (512MB,512MB,512MB and 1024mB) but is still rather slow.1080.21 Gb Usable Harfd Drive Capacity and 907.53Gb Free space.
The problem I was having seems solved, thanks to The Builder. But any suggestions on how I can make improvements are always appreciated. Many thanks to you all for responding.

I have used Ccleaner for over 10 years, never had a problem with it and it was actually recommended to me by a Microsoft engineer. again Winpatrol has also served me well for many years. I certainly wont be removing it!!
