I have a great relationship with my teenagers, but they do go throught the 'silent' stage, and no matter how good your relationship is & how easy it is for you all to talk there may be something they can't talk to you about.
If I had any inkling that my child was in trouble I would read their diary. If it were just out of curiosity, then I wouldn't!
Rubyrose I totally understand what you ar saying. My mum ready my diary simply because she was nosey..I don't trust her either!
However, non matter how boring this sounds...when you have your own kids it's a different ball game entirely. Believe me, I was going to be the hippest, coolest parent around before I had kids ~ when they came along that attitude changed. I still find myself saying things to my kids that I never thought I would say.
I find myself taking too much interest in them sometimes. They think I interfere, when in fact the reason I try to communicate with them is because my parents ignored me. My mum prefferred to read my diary ;o)
