Nikon Slr Camera Lens Questions?

Hi!
So for my photography class we had to have an SLR camera because we learn how to develop film and all that, so I ordered a Nikon n2000 from Etsy but it only had the body and I had to buy a lens which when I went to my local camera store they only had one lens that would fit it and its a "zoom" lens I guess and I can't really take picture up close or anything which I really need to do. So I found a lens on Ebay for pretty cheap; a Nikon Nikkor 50mm F/1.8 D AF Lens, will this work for my camera? I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to these things so any additional information would also be helpful. Also if you know anyone selling a lens that would work that isn't too expensive please let me know!

I don't know anything much about cameras and lenses (point, pray and click is my style) but the manual for that camera is available at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/nikon/nikon_n2000/nikon_n2000.htm and if you go to page 36 of it, there is a list of the lenses which will fit.

All Nikon len's would fit, the lens will probably cost more than the body.
Look on ebay there are SLR film cameras with a lens for under £20.
A very good starting camera is the Zenit I have seen them as cheap as £10 with lens. The normal lens on a Zenit is the Helios 44 it is one of the best lens available and can focus to under 1 foot. Zenit cameras take len's known as M42 mount, there are literally 1,000s to choose from and they are cheap , again just do an ebay search for M42 lens
A nikon lens is going to cost a lot more probably at least £50.
