Travelling on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, (ring any bells?)

My friend has a massive thing about this boat sinking in such tradgic circumstances as the Titanic. She says its temping fate. Does anyone else have this similar feeling, or like me, believe it's all nonsense?

big, eh? The transatlantic route used to be the main one for ocean liners in pre-jumbo jet days, so hundreds of ships plied the route for every one that went down. Millions of Europeans emigrated to the USA in this way during the 19th and 20th centuries. Southampton was a common departure point, as was Hamburg; New York was the usual destination. No reason to fixate on the Titanic rather than, say, the QE2, which has made the trip hundreds of times in safety.

Nah, it's all nonsense! However, think of the lifetime of "I told you so" opportunities you friend will have if something does happen......

It wasn't so long ago that the Queen Mary 2 did this same maiden voyage and it's still around doing it. The QM2 is more of a direct comparison to the Titanic also, since they're ocean liners (as jno pointed out), the FotS is a cruise ship that'll spend its life steaming around in big circles in the Carribean.

Also (!), the FotS hasn't been officially named yet, so this is more of a delivery trip than a maiden voyage.
