That the originator of a thread on a subject that does not infringe site rules should be informed regarding why their thread has been removed.

If it is because of the actions of a poster or posters then it is their posts that should be removed, so that the inoffensive thread is allowed to continue.

I entirely agree - it would be polite - and would stop perfectly good discussions being binned because someone (accidentally or deliberately) went beyond acceptable limits.

It might be a bit time consuming for the gnomes though.
