More modern woodchip was made washable, so it won't, 'cos it's more waterproof. smudge is right, it'll then need a steamer. But there's a spiky wheel thingy you can buy that'll ease the scoring of the paper. It's like a Mexican cowboy's wheel-type boot-spurs on a handle that pricks holes in the paper in no time. Easier and safer than a knife, and less likely to cause damage to what's underneath.
I agree with the first 3 answers. Get rid of it by methods suggested. A bit of patience will do wonders and there is something very satisfying in stripping off wallpaper. Now I don't know if you have children but this is just the sort of job they enjoy.
By doing this you will have many more options open to you. For example it may be simpler and cheaper to paint your then nice clean wall than buying more wallpaper. By using a bit of thought you may be able to emphasize one wall with a different colour to the rest.
