If the past five years is anything to go by this means no doubt greater unemployment, greater numbers of soup kitchens, greater child poverty, greater Bankers' bonuses, greater wealth for Fat Cats, greater gap between rich and poor, greater gap between North and South, etc etc.

//In 1956, it became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This preceeded National Park status. //
The National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act was enacted in 1949, and the first national park (the peak district) was designated in 1951. Not entirely sure how 1956 precedes that?

whiskeryron, now you've mentioned the valleys in the context of "compliments from ...... the glorious Tory Party", lets not forget how the labour government treated the victims of Aberfan in 1966. in a breathtaking act of cynicism, they permitted the coal board to appropriate £150,000 from the disaster fund to help deal with removal of the tips; additionally, they caused the bereaved to have to prove they were close to their deceased relatives, before any compensation payments were made.
Is it just me or do any other ABers agree that from the general opinions we read, there has been a tremendous amount of rose tinted spectacles bought of late ? Now that Dave has been generously given a mandate to work his magic on the country see how long it will take for the soup kitchens to multiply & the NHS ( which is safe in his hands) to fall apart & be taken over by the helping hands of private enterprise.
