Slow Computer.

My computer has slowed down that much it is actually beginning to annoy me - it takes upto 2 mins for IE to load and the time taken to open documents or do anything is too slow.
Can anyone recommend a program (preferably free) that could fix this?

I am - and I really don't have all that many icons on my screen - but this is woodchopper's question and I've hijacked it, sorry, I'll shut up!

Check you are not low on disk space. Download and install the free version of malwarebytes. Update it and run a scan. I'd also run a full anti-virus scan. After these, use msconfig to see what programs and services are starting up. Ensure that a defrag is not scheduled and running on a regular basis. Use Task Manager to see what process is using a large amount of memory. Search on the internet to see how to do all this as there is no time or space here for me to do it. It might be worth reporting back to tell us how you get on. Good Luck!

And then use Firefox, instead of IE. Install Adblock once you've downloaded it as well.

done the msconfig and defragged - not much difference - it is slow to open new windows, scroll, open documents

I think your IE Browser is causing problems.

Try the advice given by SeaJayPea. I can virtually guarantee that you will see a difference.

Details of your pc including Windows O/S and how much RAM fitted?

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Windows Task Manager.

Click on the ‘Processes’ tab to see which application is using most CPU resources.
You could try ending the process if it is some unnecessary application.
