Does anyone know if there is something I can spray on to a carpet to discourage my old dog who is not very well from urinating on carpet. Does pepper work or is that only for cats?If this isn't the right department please tell me where to go.

My dog had this problem. He wasn't weeing on the floor on purpose, he had no control over his bladder at all. He was 14 and the vet thought that he had cystitis, then bladder stones and then eventually they found that he had a tumour in his bladder and had to be put to sleep.

You say that he is not very well, maybe the vet can help. Maybe he has no control over his bladder so nothing you put down will help.

After Robbie died I had to get my carpets professionally cleaned. That was 5 years ago - I miss him still.

If your poor old dog is not well, then he is probably as upset as you are about weeing on the carpets, can you not confine him to an area where you can put paper down, or take the carpet up, or put some lino down?

He probably cannot help where/when he needs to go, so nothing will help.

You have to decide which is more important to you - your poor old dog or having a lovely carpet. I know what my choice would be.

I took my carpet up 2 years ago and laid those stick down vinyl tiles that look like wooden flooring - they are brilliant. A quick sweep and a mop and they are good as new.
