Hi

I am new and would appreciate any advise anyone can give,

Last night I popped out in my car to get some food it was pretty late around 12midnight, out of no where there was a car tailing me, for no reason, I tried to pull over to let these guys past but they continued to tail me, I began to get worried and tried to get away from them thinking they were after me for something I turned left into a side road but due to my panic I lost control of my car and drove into a shop window damaging my car and the shop, I looked in my mirror these people were still coming behind me, fearing for my life I backed out of the shop and quickly dived down some side roads and lost them, I then called the police and my insurance informing them of what had happened.

I explained I was genuinely frightened and did not stop. my car has since be recovered, no one was injured at the time of the accident.

can anyone advice if I have done anything wrong here?

Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act says this (I’ve left out irrelevant bits): 170 Duty of driver to stop, report accident and give information or documents. (1) This section applies in a case where, owing to the presence of a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place, an accident occurs by which— (a) personal injury is caused to a...

i never claimed my car had been stolen or had any alcohol, thanks for the comparison to your "friend", I know what happened and don't need to deviate from my story.
I am not here to argue with you or anyone about this I just came online to ask for advise.

Thanks.
No worries, like I said, good luck!
I think as the earlier posts on this thread say, you seem to have done the best in a scary situation.

I'm sure all will be fine.

Careful ant, just in case he follows you
The police like a good yarn, they will get to the bottom of what really happened. If I were to have a guess, and it's only a guess, you've either made the whole thing up (why would you?) or you've had a few bevvies, and were hoping to clear it up when you were sober. It's just a guess, though.
At the top of the “Law” section it says this:

“Please refrain from being rude, abusive or judgemental - members come here for advice, not judgement! Members who offer only moral judgement will be suspended.”

It would also be a good idea if this were to be repeated at the top of the Motoring section as quite a few questions there are law-related.

Whether your version of events is true or not is of no concern to me, ant. I simply answer this type of question to the best of my ability. Unless you want an online argument (and I got the impression you did not as there's little point in asking for advice giving false details) it’s usually best to ignore posters who have their own agenda.
so you got out the car and walked home?

you claim to be terrified ... but you got out the car and walked home... no taxi? no police? no getting picked up by a friend? not simple driving home?

regardless - you smashed up the front of the shop - having a good reason doesnt change that and wont stop the fact that you have to pay for it - an accident is an accident ...

also there are cctv cameras all over the place these days - street ones, and ones in shop windows, building etc - they police will gather the footage and be able to see this car ... that was initially just tailing you ... but then suddenly started to flash their lights ...

I think ant has left the scene again. User inactive since about the time he called Hopkirk a troll
I think he deleted his account because he knew he was rumbled with his BS story, thanks anyway New Judge for your input, he asked advise and got it, whether it be what he wanted to hear or not
This is a similar thread from this week
