As I’ve said before, the situation across the country varies enormously. However, to see how some people might feel, take a walk along, say, the Barking Road in the East Ham area on Friday afternoon after “Friday Prayers” have chucked out. You will be fortunate to see a non-Muslim there but you will see many hundreds of young Muslim men emerging from the mosques. These congregations split into smaller groups but remain on the streets for some hours. Do likewise in the Cowley Road area of Oxford and you will find the same. Many non-Muslims, especially women, feel quite intimidated.
Of course the same situation does not prevail in Chipping Norton and that’s why it’s wrong to say that the country (as a whole) is being “swamped”. But it’s equally wrong to say that in some areas many people feel that “swamped” is the only way to describe their plight.
