Is there any pilots out there who could give me some information on how they made it. Please help.

I've been a commercial pilot most of my adult life. (My dad still asks what I'm going to do when I grow up). I'm in the U.S. and the methods of obtaining the requisite licensing and experience are quite a bit different than in other countries. Here, one can go to any number of flight schools at a fairly reasonable cost.
I, due to the era in which I grew up, bought an old airplane, hired an instructor and voila, so to speak.
The industry has changed dramatically over the last several years and I'm not sure that I would have advised any of my children to enter aviation. That was not neccessary since, growing up around aircraft, they had no fascination with it. It's been extremely rewarding for me, but a lot of that is due, again, to the era in which I entered it and the various aircraft that I've had the distinct pleasure to fly. (Some, not so pleasurable!)
We see a lot of foreign students here in the U.S., and the ones I talk to say it's because of the high cost of training in Europe and elsewhere.

Im not a pilot myself but my uncle who flies for BA now started out by doing an engineering course at university then got involved with the RAF flying choppers as soon as he could, he served in the RAF for quite a bit, mostly in Columbia. He then tried for his fixed wing license which he gained and has been moving up the ranks of BA ever since.
