Who Would Want Family History Records?

Similar question to the cards really.

I've been tracing my family tree for a few years now, and have got quite far back in some lines.

The thing is that no one else in my family is remotely interested, especially the younger members.

It includes photos and documents, and is quite comprehensive.

Has anyone got any ideas as to who I might leave it to when I die?

Would be a shame to just dump it with all the work that's gone into it.

Probably no one else is that interested in your family history. Just put it in a box marked " Family History" and hope some relative will take a look.

I've typed all mine up, published it as a slim book (on lulu.com) and given copies to all my relatives. If they want to chuck it away, that's their privilege. You might find the younger ones hang on to it, though - people really only get interested in family history when their parents die.

You could try offering it to the local library or family history association.

I would copy it digitally so could be stored digitally. Not really my scene but my father died when I was 20. Father fought in ww11 and when I ask my mother things she does not know. Though not relevant to family at present it may be in 20-30 years time.

Those youngsters will hit middle age one day and suddenly get interested in such things.

Can you transfer it to a family tree website such as MyHeritage, so they can come back to it later when they wonder where they came from?

Its already based on Ancestry.com, but I have also printed it out and filed it by individuals, and with a family tree.

The family's response is "how can you be interested in people you don't know!

The fact that there are some very interesting characters (including the daughter of a royal) in there doesn't seem to make much difference!
