Link Between Infected Hand And Hip Pain?
7 Answers
Hi all, when i had my hip replacement three years ago i was told to be careful of infections in other joints, as the infection could migrate to the new hip.
A month ago I suffered an animal bite into a finger joint. The bite became infected and I was on 1,000 mg antibiotic a day for twelve days. Although I think the infection has gone, the finger joint is still mis-shapen, red and does not bend fully. In the last week, I have been experiencing quite unpleasant pain around the area of the replacement hip. Is there a connection?

Extremely unlikely.
I cannot visualize any connection whatsoever.
Do you have rheumatoid arthritis as well as well as osteoarthritis and if so are you taking immuno suppressants?

No, Sqad, never had rheumatoid arthritis, so that can be ruled out. Woofgang, I don't really want all the hassle of trying to get a GP appointment (waiting time approx three weeks where I live) if there is no need. I trust Sqad's judgement, and if Sqad says a link is unlikely then I will just persevere with the Ibuprofen. I suspect that the strenuous physical activity connected with the animal bite has irritated the hip/thigh area and it will settle eventually. Thanks, all.
Ha Ha jno, don't know of any walk-in centres locally. If there were, they would be swamped, because the GP appointment system locally is so dire, and set to get worse once the summer tourists descend upon us. I suspect the hip pain will disappear given time, and once I stop messing about on my hands and knees under hedges, trying to catch injured cats.
