Use a small, sharp knife to lightly score down the prawn and then use the tip of the knife to lift the vein out.

Fiddly but necessary.
No real easy way, you need a sharp, small knife. Hold prawn, vein uppermost and very lightly score along it. If you don't cut through it, it is easy enough to insert the point of the knife underneath the vein and lift it out. If you do cut through then it's a bit messier. Rather boring job, but necessary as the 'vein' is the digestive tract. You may find a small triangular shape sticking out of the tail end, pull that out too.
I have never eaten a prawn, or any other kind of seafood - just the look of them - and the thought of what they eat - puts me right off!
Crikey, Andy!
I would just chop the head off, and then eat it ... legs, tail, shell ... it's all edible.
Blimey Andy ! You don't know what you are missing !
With a cocktail stick stab through the prawn about half way along its back aiming to get under the vein. Then carefully pull upwards trapping the vein on the stick with your thumb as it comes clear. Should just pull out. This also works for shell on prawns, just use a gap between the overlapping plates.
Actually 'vein' is a nice way of putting it -its the digestive tract and full of black poo lol! The ones I buy in Aldi are half the price of M&S and already de-''veined'
I could eat a pile of prawns on their own, or in a nice thick wholemeal bread sandwich! Fantastico.
I never de-vein prawns - life's too short!
Why bother to 'de-vein' prawns if you eat oysters or whitebait? anyway they have been cooked haven't they?
Andy I implore you to eat a scallop.
If I ever come into money I'm going to order my size of a plate of scallops. I may burst during this but it'll be worth it.
frog-nog Scallops and bacon are a match made in heaven.. I'll share your plate when you win the lottery ! :)
Andy, do you eat plants? they absorb nutients from decaying corpses and carbon dioxide that other animals and fungi have breathed out.
I love seafood. I've spent the last 12 days eating fish/shellfish.
Ummmm
Lampuki here I come soon. Is it In season yet around Malta?
Deal Jourdain! Make it a double portion!
As for deveining prawns, I tend to go the toothpick under the vein route, but you do have to be gentle.
A knife score along the spine is usually easiest.
I haven't a clue, Retro, fish of the day was usually sea bass, sea bream, swordfish or tuna. Mussels, octopus, gigantic prawns, clams and squid were on most menus.

I absolutely loved it. A bit sad to be home but I did really miss the kids.
