7a I kept retiring without husband, which is pointless ( 4 ) I?L? I can see IDLY but can't rationalise it.
2d Rising, smoker fell over in chamber ( 8 ) A?T?R?O? I can see ANTEROOM but can't rationalise this either

Thanks Lie-in King. Just noticed that I've titled this wrongly! Would still have been struggling with 7a but I had thought of FELL as a geographical feature but SMOKER didn't occur to me as another one. Internet has been playing silly beggars this weekend hence delay in response.
No problem Mike, glad I could help :-)
