The child had chest problems and had to use an inhaler. The parents had been told that smoking aggravates the boy's breathing difficulties but chose to carry on regardless.
I am sure the smoking had a factor in the decision for adoption.
My first reaction was "adoption? That's a bit extreme?" But if the parents have been as resistant to change as claimed, and have been given a chance to change...then this is for the best. Also, adoption is likely to be far more stable than any foster care situation. Too often it seems children come out worse when in care.
Correct judgement in this case - the parents sound inadequate of parenting skills, as someone said earlier, love is not always enough.
Could it be that this is what the "parents" wanted?
No...they fought it.

//Both parents attempted to fight the local council’s application for their son to be adopted//
Why idiots smoke around children is beyond me. Their poor little lungs.

Smoking is a filthy habit.

The ability of large swathes of the human race to remain unable to think outside their immediate personal orbit accounts for virtually all the problems in all the world - smoking is just a small part of that.
Sad but true, the child deserves better and yes he needs to be adopted by a nice non smoking family, the judge is right .
Yes it has. The parents have been declared to be unfit to have this poor little lad. The smoking, although serious, was only one of many factors. He deserves better than this.....lets hope he goes to a good home, without any drug users.
