I prefer JPEG images, as those tend to be more reliable. They go straight into storage and not into a file, therefore more convenient. I'm still not sure what a PNG is, though. Can someone explain?

A PNG is lossless, so you can spread it around as much as you like and it won't deteriorate in the same way that a Jpg does
Png is a compressed image, with less pixels (dots per inch). If you enlarge png image the quality would be grainy
I think jpgs are worse for that than pngs Tambo
Just different ways to hold the picture data. There are a lot more formats than just those two. I've never bothered to learn much about PNG but JPEG can be set to hold more or less data depending on how small you want the resulting file to be. Shrink the file too much and you start to see the loss of picture quality.
PNG format is a lossless compression file format, which makes it a common choice for use on the Web. PNG is a good choice for storing line drawings, text, and iconic graphics at a small file size.

JPG format is a lossy compressed file format. This makes it useful for storing photographs at a smaller size than a BMP. JPG is a common choice for use on the Web because it is compressed. For storing line drawings, text, and iconic graphics at a smaller file size, GIF or PNG are better choices because they are lossless.
