When people say 'God is kind and loving' just because their own lives aren't a perpetual daily saga of misery, hunger, thirst and disease...
How self-centered and oblivious must one be to declare something so obtuse when MILLIONS are born into the poverty cycle every week and will spend virtually all of their lives fighting to stay alive? Millions more are born in and around conflict zones with a very small window of opportunity for anything besides escaping explosions, dogding bullets and making agonising trips all over the place as refugees.
How easy to say 'I'll pray for them' and wash your hands off this stark reality. If a God needs someone to pray in order to help these people, s/he is already an inept OR cruel being.
But seeing as generations of people have been praying and that hasn't done ball to eradicate conflict zones or poverty, maybe you should consider if your prayers are actually being heard by anyone besides yourself. After all, you can never pray to pass an exam, sit on your ass and do absolutely nothing and then pass with distinction, can you?
What a coincidence that your prayers only seem to work when human effort is put into the said task ONLY, eh? And what sort of a loving God prioritises your prayers for landing that promotion over prayers for millions of starving and dehydrated children emaciating away in poverty? Or people dying from wars- most of which are fought IN HIS NAME?

Ayn Rand? (I had to google the quote) I don't know if I should have been surprised but I was. (I haven't read any of her output and the only opinion I've received from friends, so far, is that she was borderline fascist, in outlook).

Hi Hyps,
I believe AR would have agreed that a disciple attempting to blindly follow her ('s or anyone else's) philosophy are making a grave mistake and are in for a world of hurt. All the same, to the extent I've been able to comprehend and systematically incorporate that philosophy into my life, I've found the effort commensurately rewarding. I wouldn't recommend anyone take on board an assortment of ideas the implications of which they do not fully understand . . . from ones best friend any more than ones perceived worst enemy.

However you have to admit she is a girl from Sri Lanka. You can't judge her like this! Have you ever heard about what happened in Sri Lanka in the past 30 years? How awful the civil war was and that people still suffer? I think people who experienced this are somehow allowed to say this. They experienced things which we can't even imagine.. Maybe you should read something about the black tigers, about the fight between the Sinhalese and the Tamil people and then you will understand somehow!
