I am suffering terribly with hot flushes during the day and night. After having a blood test to see my FSH level I have been prescribed Tibolone 2.5mg but I'm a bit reluctant to start taking them because of the cancer scares relating to HRT treatment.
Is anyone else taking these or can recommend an alternative to HRT - I have been taking Red Glover (recommended by my Dr) for nearly 12 months but its not doing any good!
I was prescribed HRT for a while but I never got on with it so my doc changed it to NORETHISTERONE and the symptoms subsided almost right away. Good luck girl xxx
Yelenots......red clover, sage, black cohosh, dong quai.....waste of money imo....got the t-shirt. HRT will do the trick + stop the hot flushes, but just bear in mind it only pauses the menopause.....you have to go through it eventually, and they don't like prescribing HRT for more than 2 years these days.
As janbee says...good luck :-)
I kind off agree with Bathsheba. Tried all the complementary stuff and it did no good. HRT turned me into the middle aged female version of Kevin the Teenager so that was a non starter. 20ish years ago there were many less options so In the end I used nothing, dressed in layers of natural fibres, slept in natural fibres, kept my watery drink intake up and swore a lot. Dizzy spells were so bad that the doc thought it might be neurological. It all kicked off in my early 40's am now 62, still getting odd spates of hot flushes and dizzies but not as bad.
I don't mean to be rude but wonder what women did before HRT? and whether maybe we now have different expectations, also whether maybe those expectations are due to the fact that women now work outside as well as inside the home?
@woofgang....I think they just "put up + shut up" with it. I vividly remember my late Mum absolutely melting whilst trying on outfits for my wedding in the early 70s, poor love.
When I started to get the hot flushes I began taking soya tablets. I really believe they helped me and to this day I have my cereal with soya milk. Pure soya milk, not the sweetened drink. Some say it is an acquired taste, but I rather like it, but not in my tea or coffee. Also eat plenty tofu. According to my in-laws , Japanese women do not get hot flushes. mmmm, don't know if to take that with a pinch of salt. But you can buy soya tablets and also my hair seemed to get thicker.
What did women do before HRT ? I vividly remember my Mum chucking a saucepan at my dad ..lol and flying into one at the slightest thing .
I had a hysterectomy aged 38 so went through an early menopause .I did a mother and swept the whole caboodle off the worktop one night ,plates ,kettle the lot .I was like a harridan on speed .
Off I went to the doctor rather than the divorce courts ..lol,got HRT ,took it for about four years and had no problems after that apart from the odd hot flush and I still get those now and again aged 67 but they are few and far between.
I had an early menopause (chemo) and after trying a couple of others I was put on tibolone and took it for years. In fact I hung onto it until about 4 yrs ago, I'm 61 now. It wasn't the wonder drug that some claimed but it helped a lot. Giving up, even gradually, was hell. I have other health problems which have all been magnified since then and if it wasn't for the risks I'd have the hrt back tomorrow. Good luck, for many women it's a tough ride.
What suits one doesn't suit another Woofy .It was the right thing for me.I got my life back. My GP explained it all.I wouldn't worry too much about the cancer scares yelenots.Have you discussed the pros and cons in depth with your GP?
Loads of women have taken it .You may only need to take it for a short while .
My way of looking at it was that I had to have calm .I had a family to bring up and a job to hold down .Mr S had a stressful job too and he didn't want a nitty worn out bad tempered wife to come home to .
of all the things I never took was HRT - yet I remember my doctor saying - if I had had my way I would put every female on the earth on it - oh would you says I to myself. Never went on it - and through it all just suffered a few hot flushes. Could be doing be with them now with this weather.
I know Shaney. My (female) doc was quite surprised when I went back and said it didn't help and actually made my emotional symptoms worse. There were less drug options then of course.
I did say soya was an acquired taste. But actually once you don't expect it to taste like milk or a milkshake, it is nice. Very light and easy to digest also. But to each his own. It worked/works for me.
