Once again, thanks to everybody.
Chipping Norton proved to be somewhat of a disappointment. Not as "olde-worldy" and pretty as we thought. Nothing like as attractive a place, as Stow on the Wold, Chipping Camden, etc. Had a nice light lunch though, in a Bistro called the Old Mill Cafe ( I think ! ) Nice food, reasonable prices and not pretentious at all....a rare commodity in the Cotswolds !
Then went and had afternoon tea and cakes in Lower Slaughter, which is an old haunt of ours :::

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Home made cakes and tea in a proper teapot. You can sit out on the terrace, overlooking the mill race and have your tea, while watching the ducks and swans. I know Lower Slaughter is a bit touristy but its very pretty, especially at this time of year. All the cottage gardens are at their best. Then had a nice walk up to Upper Slaughter and back.
Long day though....310 miles round trip ! Probably won't go back to Chipping Norton again, and no...we didn't see any of the Chippy celeb set
( thank goodness ! )
