(The food manufacturers & retailers have to make a profit from somewhere). Cooking your own food from scratch, making double portions and freezing them and using fresh vegetables rather than frozen can help cut your food bill. If you have a garden why not start growing your own tomatoes, runner beans and salad crops. It's surprising how much you can grow in a small space if you keep the soil well fertilised. Also, I'd be tempted to give you husband your �50 housekeeping allowance and suggest he does it himself for a fortnight. It's not just food that eats up the budget. It's all the ancilliaries like washing machine powder, toilet rolls, etc. Do you cook fresh food for your child? Buying pre-prepared stuff will work out really expensive. On the other hand, if you work, time can sometimes balance out money. But give him the chance to prove it can be done !
