hi i lent my friend a large household item for a one off use (it has been sitting in our garage for 5 years, unused. I asked her if she wanted to keep it, as quite frankly it would be a pain to have it back and i really don't want it. She didn't want to keep it and kept threatening to bring it back we joked about selling it. she has a friend who would like to buy it, and has offered £100 for it. She asked me if that was an acceptable amount and if i wanted to sell it (and i do because i really really hoped she'd keep it and it would be gone from my life forever!)
My dilemma is, should i expect her to give me the £100? Should she keep it? should we split it?it was my stuff, but she went to the trouble of selling it

Sold a set of ladders for a friend on Ebay, selling price although he said I could keep the £40, me being a friend, give him the money, money's not everything,

it's a car roof box - the car it fitted on bit the dust years ago, and we now have a land rover so never need the roof box again
IMO a 50/50 split.
I like the idea of taking her out for a meal on the proceeds or maybe give her a voucher that you know she would like eg hairdresser's.
have you decided what you are going to do bednobs?

All those ABers who have suggested a 50/50 split are assuming that bednobs makes the decision, as the cash will given to bednob's friend on completion of the sale.
It will then depend upon the decision of bednob's friend and NOT bednobs as to the direction or otherwise of the cash.

She asked me if that was an acceptable amount and if i wanted to sell it

when i said friend i m eant work colleague - no meals out i think
Question Author
ps sqad - very true. However, i think she will most likely hand the cash to me
When she asked that qn then she will obviously hand over the money to bednobs who will then have to decide what to do.
Surely if she asked you if you wanted to sell it...she believes that it is still your property?
If she is a work colleague and not a friend I would insist that she took £20 for her trouble.
bednobs...right......then go 50/50.
I'd split it 50-50,if she hadn't done the legwork you weren't expecting to ever see it again anyway.
50/50 win win for each of you .

just to let you know she gave me the £100. As she had had another key cut, i gave her £10 back, then suggested that we go out to the oub for lunch one lunchtime.
Question Author
i had been intending to go 50/50 but the feel of 10 tenners in my hand made me stop[!
I'd be very happy with lunch.
