Decent Road Map Of South Western Canada
Hi everyone
We are planning a road trip to Canada but are finding it difficult to get hold of a proper large scale road map of south western Canada. There are ones that cover western USA and Canada but these aren't a large enough scale.
Any ideas please?
Many thanks.

(It's where professional travellers get their maps from. e.g. if a documentary maker in the USA wants to make a series based somewhere in Africa, it will probably be Stanfords that he turns to for his maps). They're bound to have something to meet your needs!

Hi Mazzy
Been to SW Canada a couple of times (Vancouver, Vancouver Island etc) and had a wonderful time. I have an AA map (from Waterstones) called Alberta & British Columbia Road Map, price £3.99. However, if you Google BC Tourism, they often list maps that are available free of charge. I have done this a few times for different provinces and always found them very helpful. Another very good map maker is Rand McNally who are American, well worth a look at their website. Have you been to Canada beore ? If not and you would like some more info, don't hesitate to post and I will try to help !
All the best

I can't recommend Stanfords highly enough as well. When I was planning my Route 66 trip, in late 1994, they were the only place that had the maps I needed.
By the way, did you know that the first job Kenneth Williams had was at Stanfords ? He had excellent copper plate writing, which was much appreciated there.

Once you get over here, go to the nearest CAA ( Canadian Automobile Association) outlet. They have all kinds of maps (in various scales), travel books, hotel information, camp sites, attractions, highway conditions (construction etc), and all kinds of goodies to assist you in your travels through the Provinces. They're quite inexpensive too...Have a good trip.
By the way, if you decide to Google CAA, you might get the impression that you have to be a member in order to use their services: you don't. A lot of the services, including the maps and tour books, are free to members (I'm a member); however, you can still buy the maps etc for a nominal price as a non-member.
