'going forward'

I hate using this word going forward in work. I like its discription but I HATE the phrase with a passion. Its so americanised(not spelt with a Z!!) Does anyone else feel like this about that phrase? Can anyone suggest a better phrase that I can start using from now on????? tdvit

Progressing or in progress is the phrase I would normally use, as in "work in progress" but I guess proceeding or progressing would also be adequate.

Dear Td, I'm not sure why you say "americanised (not spelt with a Z!)" The Oxford English Dictionary - the 'bible' of British-English usage - offers that as the only spelling of the word and Chambers Dictionary offers it as the first choice, preferable to 'americanised'.

I'm totally with you in your dislike for some Americanisms, but this one doesn't really qualify.

I take it you mean in the sense of going forward in time. To be frank, it doesn't bother me at all - but I don't subscribe to the current fashion this side of the Atlantic of deploring all things American - but how about "looking to the future" as an alternative?

fair enough quizmonster you cant really argue with the oxford dictionary. I made the mistake and took the microsoft dictionary as bible!! MS Word allows for z and and s in their dictionary. I like " looking to the future ", thanks geof!!

Or how about just plainly 'from now on...' or 'from this point onwards...'?
