My brother is with sky who provides phone and interest access. They're moving house and sky said can't transfer his phone number to new address due to Oftel regulations. Is this right? Thanks

Looking at the document below seems like they might be trying it on http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/telecoms/numbering/guidance-tele-no/number-portability-info/

It looks like Sky is right

If you are moving outside of your local exchange area then you probably won’t be able to keep your number if you want to have a traditional landline.
Wasn't this always the case even in the old days of just BT? If you moved to an area with a different dialling code you couldn't take your number with you.

They're not moving that far. From PO4 to PO1, just glad I'm with Virgin Media not the other shower.
Kia cat, just hope Virgin is available if you ever move house.
It would appear that you can only take your mobile number with you when you change provider. You cannot take a land line number with you when changing address to another area.
You must remember that Sky have to use BT lines for land line telephones
The Landline prefix number (023 92) is the same for PO4 and PO1.
