Just watching this. What is the reason for showing this programme? Is it to arouse our sympathy for these people, or to make us feel distaste at their profligate and dissolute lives? You will doubtless deduce my reaction from my choice of adjectives there; but I would be interested to hear ABs' views.

Kyle, I feel for your daughter "But" we have seen them on these programs, Mobiles, DVDs, HD TVs, all the mod cons, I think between the Benefit System & the Councils of each town there is work to be found such as cleaning Brooks, Playing Fields, Graffiti, Fence Painting, road street Cleaning, there is work that will get these people out of bed & watching the likes of J.K. the people that just lazy around loose all interest in their self & all around them & can put them in a depressive mood, which does them no good at all.
TWR, if there is a job to be done it should be paid. Getting the unemployed to do these jobs in return for their unemployment benefit will just more people made redundant. Why pay someone a living wage when you can get the job done for £73.10 a week?
They do get benefits HC, so to me they should work for it.
But that will put people who earn a proper wage out of work.

And what happens if there is an accident while working for £73 a week? Big compensation bill and months on the sick?
So are you saying let them lazy about watching TV, smoking , Drinking, whilst other people are working for a living & keeping the?
Training is the answer.
Getting them off their a----r----s-----e works in my book.
hc....those who want training will get it...however many are beyond training.
This statement..

//So are you saying let them lazy about watching TV, smoking , Drinking, whilst other people are working for a living & keeping the?// and your next one, proves the point - 'they' in your mind is everyone.

What of those who walk miles each day from workplace to workplace circulating their CV - spend hours trawling the net trying to locate a vacancy?

All the while trying to feed themselves and often children, fighting rising debts that accrue along the way.

Never generalise.
TWR, if you get them off their backsides working they be taken off benefits and paid a proper wage.
HC, there was a bloke living in the Town that never ever worked for the 40+ years I have been here, his Life, Pub / Club Bookies 6 days a week, his brother also being Welsh was the same, Lazy Bds, when asked about work, his answer If I worked I could not afford to do what I'm doing now, who was the Fool?
I dont think TWR is talking about the person who falls on hard times and needs a lift up...he means the serial claimants who can't possibly earn the same money if they were in work. However the system has created this situation ..not the claimants.
I don't Mam, but you can not go against what we Read / See by the likes of these programs.
Commenting on those you know all about is fine , these programmes don't give the full picture nor do sensational news stories.

Of course as I said earlier some play the system but let us not fall into the trap of ....'they'. It smacks of generalisation.
He should get a job teaching other people how to manage their money, TWR. He's done well on £73 a week.
The bloke left £12000 in his will from what was said HC, that was a fact, Mam, It's the one's that have been on the system years & play the system / know the system better that the person's handling the payments out, you must have heard that yourself, I ,by no mean are knocking these persons that's fallen on hard times through no fault of their own eg/ loss jobs, Illness, it's the ones that take the P I ZZ, & there's a lot of them.
Agree with you TWR, there ARE a lot of them !
