First day today - eat next to nothing on 2 days, normal but sensible the other 5.

No calorie counting, unless you want to!

Do you think it will work?

Any help / advice welcome

Didn't work for me - but it was effective when I changes to the the ADF version (alternative day fast). I lost forty pounds in 18 months.

see this for my feelings, venator - go the whole way, it ain't that bad. Depends, I guess, on how much you want to shed, in my book 4 stone, 4 pounds......
Fasting does not have to be whole days. "Fasting" can also mean leaving a large 'window' between meals...usually dinner/breakfast. A fasting period of 14-16 hours is not uncommon. Then have 2 sensible meals. It will have the same benefits as 5:2.

Thanks for your advice - nice to see it's all positive!

Fish and veg soup is no hardship for two days - boredom is my enemy though. snacking as i pass through the kitchen

Mrs V has put out a bowl of those little tomatoes, which have helped keep me on the straight & narrow

Pastafreak - yes, a 12 hour window is acheivable if I'm asleepfor most of that, or is it cheating?

No,being asleep isn't cheating...your body will burn fat then. That's one purpose of the longer 'window'.
I need to lose 2-3 stone, I've heard this is a good way to lose weight, and I've been promising to start this diet for ages. Not used to weight watching so it's just finding what not to eat for the 2 days of diet.
