John Inverdale was boring and not very good. I'm not sure his faux pas about what he said about Marion Bartolli has a lot to do with his not being rehired this year. He and Bartolli worked together on ITV 4 for coverage of the French Open and there didn't seem to be a problem between them.
I miss the commentators of old, the likes of Dan Maskell, Richie Benaud, Kenneth Wolstenholme, etc, who knew when to shut up. They realised we didn't need a running commentary as we could see what was happening. Most of today's commentators seem to be afraid of dead air and just don't understand that constant talking isn't necessary.
Couldn't agree more Vulcan. Broadcasting is an art form but these days we have channel bosses who would rather see celebrities galore or people more suited to radio who forget that they are on TV and forget that we can actually see what is occurring.
Benaud, Alliss, Everton, Lowe are/were great and many more sadly replaced by mediocrity in numbers. Who could forget Neville assisting at the World Cup Eng v Ita, just dreadful!!
I actually think Baldwin and also Irvine are quite decent.
