Yes, I used to do the same in the forlorn hope that an early response would be rewarded with a prize for my alacrity in sending a solution so quickly until I was reminded that the fast replies would be at the bottom of the sack in the crossword department whilst the last solutions to arrive would be at the top and have a higher chance of being picked out. I suspect that these days all postal entries have less of a chance if indeed any as electronic entries must be temptingly easier from which to pick the winners . I wonder if the Royal Mail give a commission to newspapers who still accept postal entries as this can amount to several thousands in postal charges? Does anyone know any prize giving people in media offices?
